What a nutty week!

Hello all!

Mrs. Sipp will be missing Wednesday and Thursday! Mr. Sipp is having surgery and someone has to drive him to the doctor. Don’t worry, there will be a great sub and Mrs. Lori will be here to make sure all goes well. Mrs. Sipp will be back in time for Open House. Hopefully you read the email from Sauvie Island Academy about Open House. It’s a time for your child to take you around the school and classroom to show you all the neat places they go. Check the website if you forgot the details.

Did you get the notice about the power outage? If not let’s get you signed up for phone calls and emails! When our power is out we cannot flush the toilets because we rely on a well and pump. This means we can have a pretty germy situation if out power is out for over an hour (especially during the lunch hour rush when everyone seems to remember to go). Thank you for being patient with us. We do our best to gauge the situation and make the best and safest decisions for your child. It was quite the adventure to try to use the toilets in a pitch-black bathroom. We were scrambling for flashlights!

Volunteers

Hello All,

Thank you for waiting patiently for the background checks. Some are coming in and I would LOVE to have you in the classroom. If yours is not in yet you can always come in and work in the staff room. Unfortunately, I can’t have you in the classroom until your paperwork clears. This is true of field trips too and our first is on October 9th.

If you want to come in we have a few times for you. Ms. Shelly would love some help every Wednesday in kindergarten art from 2 to 2:45. Mondays are another great time I’d love to have you in for Science from 10:30 to 11:45. Let me know if you can regularly be here at these two times. If not we have other times for you.

For those who need to operate on a more fluid schedule, we have a few drop-in times.  You can stop by any day from 12:30 to 1p.m. to read with a child.  You can also stop by any time of any day to help us out with projects in the copy room. I have quite a bit in there that I am struggling to get done and I would very much appreciate the help.

Again, keep checking to see if your paperwork has cleared. I cannot wait to see you in class.

Zero the Hero!

Today was our 10th day of school! On special days that end in zero we get to meet our special friend Zero the Hero. He teaches us why zero is so important. Today we wrote more numbers for him and he shared a very small zero treat. (This will not happy every time.) We found out it will be ten more school days until we see him again! How many zero numbers do you know?

It is our first week and we are learning so much.

Wow! What great first few days in kindergarten!

Your child is probably as exhausted as I am. We have been working very hard. We have three recesses as a full day kindergarten. Can’t you just feel the excitement as you read that? We have also been practicing how we “do school.” A few of us have been nervous to make the transition. To help ease the sometimes stressful situation we have filled our week with many fun books like “The Kissing Hand,” “Cool Dog, School Dog,” “Mrs. Bindergarten gets ready for Kindergarten,” and many others. Ask your student to see which ones were their favorites.

We have also done some lessons with bubbles, painted on our hands, took pictures, and have had LOTS of play. We are doing our best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. I appreciate the support all the kids and parents showing. It makes our room such a special place. We have a loving community.

After the first week we can start to have volunteers. I cannot wait to see who wants to come in when you tell me at Curriculum Night.

Thank you all so much! What a wonderful week we will have.
