All school skate!

Hello everyone,

As I am sure your kiddo has mentioned, as a school we have earned enough Sauvie Stars to have a field trip to go roller skating! Yay! That means that next Thursday we will be getting on school busses and having a blast. Please sign the permission slip so your child can attend. Also, please send them in thick socks and with a lunch!

Thanks so much!!

Pollination Madness!

Wow! What a week! We finished our pollinator books, we had a field trip, we had a Bee Lady (Pam Vetsch) come and visit, we've watched our garden grow... Can kindergarten get any more fun?! Check out what's been buzzing in kindergarten below (with a special thanks to all who provided pictures).

First, we finally got our pollinator books back and had a chance to read them to our friends.

Then we got to read them to our 5th grade buddies.

Check out these two beautiful examples... we even got a nonfiction author award for such a great job!

On Wednesday we went to Sauvie Island Center to get some more hands on learning about pollination! Thanks to all who could make it and help out!

Then on Friday Pam Vetch (The Bee Lady) came to visit our room. She read us a book about a bee keeper, and then we got to pretend to be bees and farmers.

Here are our farmers at their farms awaiting the bees. They needed to make a tally mark for every bee that visited their farm.

This is an example of a "bee" the other students held, and the "pollen" (chalk) in the farm. Look at how many bees visited!

She even brought us honey for all or hard work as bees and farmers. It's going home in backpacks today along with a surprise for Sunday! "Bee" on the lookout tonight!

Library Books are Due!

The short and sweet:
The first class that returns all their library books by May 29 will earn an extra recess with popsicles!
Last day for library classes: May 29
All books due/fines paid: May 29

The long explanation:
The Annual SIA Library inventory will begin on June 1. This requires every item in our digital catalog (9,556 to be exact!) to be scanned into the management system. This a big task, but you can help us be ready by being sure all library materials are returned by May 29. Fines for books that are lost or damaged should also be paid by May 29. Thank you for helping your student be a responsible library patron! Please let me know if you have any questions! thayes@sauvieislandacademy.org

And now...a plug for volunteer help! Do you or someone you know want to help with our inventory? We are always looking for helpers that want to hang in the library for any amount of time. You can chat with other volunteers, plug in your headphones, or just think as you scan/read the shelves. If you are willing, please email me at thayes@sauvieislandacademy.org or call the school. Thank you for considering volunteering!
