Summer Reading Starts June 13!
Celebrate science at the public library this summer! As you know, reading over summer break goes a long way toward maintaining reading skills so that students return in September ready to pick up where they left off in June. Summer Reading is free, and kids who finish the game will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a trip for four to Great Wolf Lodge waterpark! Visit the Summer Reading website to find out more.
Starting June 13, kids and teens may sign up for Summer Reading by visiting any Multnomah County library. If you have questions or comments, please email Summer Reading Coordinator Sarah Nelsen or call 503.988.3236. Summer Reading is made possible by The Library Foundation.

Booktalk
Pancho Rabbit and his family plan a party to welcome Papa Rabbit back from his trip to El Norte, the north country where he’d travelled two years ago to earn money for his family. But Papa Rabbit never shows up.
So Pancho Rabbit decides to go find him. He packs his father’s favorite foods: mole, beans and rice, tortillas and aguamiel (a drink made from the maguey plant) for his trip. Pancho follows the stars north, but soon he meets a coyote. Coyote agrees to help him, but each time he helps Pancho, Pancho must give him some food in return. Their journey is long; they cross rivers, they crawl through tunnels, they avoid scary rattlesnakes, and they trek across a big hot desert.
Pancho is tired, hungry and thirsty by the time they reach the hut where they’ll spend the night. But there’s no food or drink left. And now Pancho suspects Coyote wants to eat HIM! Will Pancho’s papa be there in time to rescue him?
This book shares the story of many immigrants who leave their homes and take a dangerous journey north, in search of a better life.
